How to... Choose your Retirement Paradise
There are very few individuals who will not mention traveling to or finding a second home in an exotic location when discussing their retirement plans. At Myera we have developed presentations and workshops that will help individuals and couples decide where, when and for what period of time they will spend in their new paradise.
Many feel that they would like to move to an exotic location with a better climate and more affordable cost of living. Unfortunately there are often trade-offs that you might not expect in terms of sacrificing convenience and adapting to culture, as well as hidden expenses and risks.
Our programs allow you to explore many destination options and provide guidance on how to choose an appropriate destination.
Selection Criteria
For each of the following criteria, determine if you would deem them essential, very important, important, not very important, or irrelevant to your choice of destination:
- Proximity to family and friends
- Environment
- Climate
- Personal Safety
- Health Facilities/Coverage
- Access to your favourite activity
- Community Social Conditions
- Volunteer opportunities
- Tax implications
- Easily reached from home base
- Business or consulting opportunities
- Ability for friends to visit
- Transportation Infrastructure - Air, Land, Water
- Housing type - house, apartment, etc.
- Cost of Living
- Culture/Language/Religion
These are only a few of the considerations that we discuss in the Myera.MyDestinations™ Workshop. We share both stories of success and also stories of people who discovered that there is no place quite like home.
Our Destinations Facilitators are well-travelled and have lived in foreign environs - so they understand the joys and challenges of living abroad. The workshop provides you with an excellent scorecard and check list to use when exploring a potential second home or retirement destination.
